Former Directors
Andrew Kidd, Spruce Creek High School Band Director
from 1986-2013
Andrew Kidd retired after 32 years of teaching music education in public schools. He earned his Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He was serving as the Director of Music at Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange. Mr. Kidd taught two Advanced Placement Music Classes, two International Baccalaureate Music courses, three Jazz Bands, and Symphonic Band and Marching Band. His students have successfully completed the examinations in both IB Music and AP Music Theory.
He currently serves as an Examiner and Teacher Workshop Leader for the International Baccalaureate Organization. Parallel to his activity as an IB teacher, Mr. Kidd has been the southeast consultant for the Advanced Placement Music Theory Teacher Training and an
Advanced Placement Music Theory Reader/Grader for the last 8 years. In this role, he has taught workshops all over the United States southern region for The College Board. In addition to the music education and teacher training responsibilities, Mr. Kidd has served on the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) Executive Board as the All- State Jazz coordinator and serves on the steering committee of the F.B.A. His bands consistently earn
superior and excellent ratings at district and state music
performance evaluations. The Spruce Creek High School Marching Band, under his direction, represented a seven southern state region in Pasadena, California for the 2001 Tournament of Roses Parade and 2013 St. Patricks Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. Other musical tours with the Spruce Creek Bands and Orchestra have included the Peoples Republic of China, Holland, Great Britain, Germany and Austria.
