About the Spruce Creek High School Band Programs
Spruce Creek High School was opened in 1975 and is located in Port Orange, Florida, just miles from Daytona Beach. The school has a population of over 2,500 students from the cities of Port Orange, Daytona, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach. The school music department has over 360 students enrolled in music courses and is one of the largest International Baccalaureate World School in the United State and worldwide. The Spruce Creek Music Program has represented the state of Florida as a Music Demonstration School and has been accepted as a Grammy Signature Music School Finalist.
The Spruce Creek Band has a rich history of travel and concert tours. The band instituted a cultural exchange jazz program with Bayonne, France in 1999 and 2002. In 2001, two hundred marching band students performed in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. In 2006, the Jazz Ensemble toured the People’s Republic of China. The Concert Bands traveled to London during the summer of 2004 and performed at Westminster Abby, Trinity College, and St. Luke’s Chapel. In 2010, the Spruce Creek band represented Volusia County in a tour of Holland, Germany and Austria. In 2013, the Spruce Creek Marching Band was awarded Grand Champion of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. In 2015, the Spruce Creek Band toured Great Britain, with stops in London and surrounding areas. The Wind Symphony performed at Southwark Cathedral, and the Jazz Ensemble performed at the Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium and the Royal Air Force Museum. In 2018 traveled to Austria, France, and Germany.

The Spruce Creek Instrumental Music Program consists of three Concert Bands, two Jazz Bands, an Orchestra, several Chamber Ensembles, and offers courses in AP Music Theory and International Baccalaureate Music. All the ensembles have consistently received superior ratings at district and state music performance assessments, and the Spruce Creek Wind Symphony has even been awarded the Florida Bandmasters Association's Otto J. Kraushaar Award, the highest award given for Straight Superior ratings at all district and state music performance assessments. In 2020 the Spruce Creek Wind Symphony was selected as a performer in the Music for All Regional Concert Band Festival. In 2019 the Spruce Creek 12 O’clock jazz band performed at the FMEA Music Conference. The 12 O’clock Jazz Band has performed at the Savannah Swing Central as a Finalist in 2016, 2019 and 2020. The 12 O’clock jazz band also was the winner of the ‘Perform with Mintzer” 2021 Jazz Competition and the winner of the L-1 Division of the National Jazz Festival in 2021.

Dr. John Carmichael, Dr. Matthew McCutchen, Dr. Scott Lubaroff, Pete Waidelich, Chris Sharp, Alexander Kaminsky, Charles Watford, and many others.
