Uniforms - Mary Flynn-Boener advised that for the Saturday luminary sales, students would be in marching uniform and santa hat. At the end of the day, the student takes the uniform and shako home for the parade. After the parade, the students bring the uniform back to the school. She will be ordering band jackets tomorrow for anyone wanting one. Price is around $48 and they must be paid for in advance.
Luminary – Mr. Kidd instructed that the students are to arrive just before 8am and he will be doing some role playing to give them an idea of what they might encounter during their sales and how to respond appropriately. Jan Albert reported that she now has about 55 drivers; 4 kids per car; 20 kits are taken in a car at a time. Drivers should have drinks available in the car for the kids and to be sure to have approximately $30 in one dollar bills to make change. All students will be told to bring money for the lunch break.
Director’s Report – Mr. Kidd claimed a world record this year for luminary construction. 3500 kits in four periods - everyone participated. Field night has been postponed until the week before the winter break. Exact date to be determined. He further advised that the band members and colorguard would be participating in the Cool School Award program to be aired live on Fox 35 News in the morning around 7:30am. This would be an in school event and the students would be excused from classes, unless they had a test or other reason not to miss class. They would likely miss periods 1 through 3. Mr. Kidd is excited about the first Saturday luminaries sales. He stated that the weather looked to be good and that after the students were done for the day the needed to pick up their uniforms and instrument for the parade the next day. Full uniform and shako for the parade. Full uniform and santa hat for luminary sales. Parents walking with the parade should be in black polo and khakis. At the January 5th Booster Meeting the photography proofers will be available to go over photos with parents. They will also be here on January 6 from 3:30pm until 9pm. Mr. Kidd reported that the Sound of Music was a great success and that many people had great things to say about it.
Director’s Report - Dr. Musson shared that he would be taking the jazz combo students out of the luminary sales early so that they may perform for a large function in the presence of several doctors. Those doctors have offered to make a donation to the band to cover the loss of those students participating fully in the luminary sales. He also shared that Mr. Kidd would also be leaving early as he is being honored at 5pm on Saturday by the City of Port Orange for his lengthy community involvement. Dr. Musson ran through a list of dates as follows: in addition to the luminary sales and Port Orange Christmas parade, on 12/8 the Flute Ensemble and the Jazz Guitar Ensemble will be performing at the Spruce Creek Book Fair at Barnes & Noble; 12/9 from 2pm to 4pm is a dress rehearsal for the holiday concert - they do not actually have to be in dress/uniform; 12/10 at 7pm is the Holiday Concert; and 12/12 second Saturday of luminary sales.
