Treasurer Report - Terri Karol reported that we have $101,539.04 as a balance; however, most of that amount is Europe funds. Amended budget looking good. Little over $3,000 came in for the pancake breakfast this time. Most of that money came in after the breakfast. Reminder that fees must be paid up to travel to Europe. Because of the fees associated with accepting credit cards, we would not accept credit cards for payment of any Europe expenses. Statements were e-mailed. Adult Staffing – Lynn Kindy discussed needs for Lakeside Jazz. Several shifts available.
Uniforms – Mary Boener thanked all volunteers – National Volunteer week. Please check home for missing uniform parts. Uniforms were slowly getting cleaned. She would be sizing students during the kick off and the measuring and fitting would be different this year. John’s Bridal to help.
Lakeside Jazz – Best year yet, had to turn away schools. Official field study for Creek jazz bands. Yellow staff shirts will be issued. If wearing yellow shirt, you will be working. Wanda Roberson busy securing 25 businesses willing to donate food. Runners needed to pick up food donations. Preferred seating to begin at 5 p.m. Tables sell for $100 a piece. Over last 12 years 600+ scholarships have been awarded students for attendance at various music/guard/leadership camps.
SCRIP/Shopping Cards – Noreen Kearn reported that the recent order totaled $5,556.60 with a profit to the band as follows: Cards - $170.40, Aunt Catfish - $50.00, Publix - $150.00. Total profit when cards are sold is $370.40. Cards will be sold some time at the Lakeside Jazz Festival. Total profit, to date, for this new fundraiser is $4,654.29.
Banquet – Wanda Roberson in charge, price of the ticket went up $1.00 to $30.00 this year. Banquet to be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 again at the Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center. Price still covers everything, including dance for students. Anthony Malena will be putting together video clips, senior video and year in review. Order forms for DVD on table.
Year in Review / Senior Recognition Video – Mr. Malena/Mr. McKaig are working on this and would appreciate photos/videos of the year in the next couple of days. Order forms are on table.
Jewelry Fundraiser – Dina Emig representative of Premier Designs, Inc. explained jewelry sale and deadline extended until May 1, 2009. All forms, checks, etc. can be mailed directly to her at 143 Alachua Drive, Winter Haven, FL 33884 or dropped in the band box prior to the deadline. Several students modeled the jewelry selections. Thirty (30%) profit to individual student account.
Coupon Book Fundraiser also available to offset travel expenses to Europe. Coupon books sell for $20.00 and half of the cost will go into the student account. If you buy four you will get one free. We are providing many opportunities for students to raise money for the Europe trip. Mr. Kidd has contact information for this fundraiser.
Directors’ Report – Mr. Butler reported that the Orchestra had just returned from State MPA and received straight 3’s. Judges were very difficult. Spring concert will be held in the school auditorium on Tuesday, April 28th at 7:00 p.m. Percussion camp is coming up. Spring Awards Banquet set for May 16th at the Daytona Beach Resort and Convention Center. Graduation is set for the 23rd of May and is the final exam for students. All are expected to attend. Busses will be traveling to the Peabody for the London Symphony Orchestra, April 30th. Four chaperones are needed. Only 12 tickets left. Fee is $5.00. Permission slips for LSJ are still needed by Friday.
Europe 2010 – Please continue to make payments. One of the adult hotels is under renovations and another one will be selected. Airlines have postponed until May 7th any negotiation. David McGuffin will be requesting cargo bins for our use. Those without passports should begin the process of acquiring one. Next scheduled payment due in May. We will not be taking credit card payments for any trip balances, so please plan ahead. The combo that recently played at the Eagles raised $3,500 to be used for expenses of the trip in 2010.
Kick-off on June 2nd. Susan Prisaznick will assist on this event. Many volunteers are needed for this evening.
Wanda Roberson informed group of Chili’s/Band Night. Suggested it be held on June 2nd. Chili’s will donate a portion of the meal total to the band. Coupons would have to be presented to the server for the discount to be applied.
