General Meeting March 3, 2009

Director’s Notes - Mr. Butler reported that Orchestra received all superiors recently. Only Orchestra in District to do so. Band MPA is Thursday evening at New Smyrna Beach High School. Concert Band performs at 7:00 p.m. and Wind Ensemble performs at 8:30 p.m. Busses will leave the school at 5:00 p.m.

Mr. Kidd stated that the Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th at Aunt Catfish’s. Ticket price $5.00. Students received envelopes with 10 tickets. $2.00 from each ticket sold by student will be credited to their band account. Please return money ASAP and any unsold tickets to the band lock box. Parents are needed to help and clipboard was passed around. Arrive at restaurant around 7:15 a.m. Black band shirt and khaki pants. Entertainment by several jazz bands. Workers, please park across the street


Concert in the Park is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th at the Amphitheater. Report time is 6 p.m. Black polo and khaki. 7 p.m. start for evening of music under the stars.


Pep band may be playing at dedication of new Fire Station on March 28th.


Lakeside Jazz – Cindy Berdeguez reported on Brighthouse Cable’s donation of $5,000 to the LSJ and also a donation for $5,000 of air-time. The waste management company also donated $1,000. Several in-kind donations have been pledged for the weekend. Many groups already registered. Working on having City waive the fees for the Pavilion.


State MPA Festival in Ocala – Monday, March 30th for Solo/Ensemble/Jazz. $20.00 will be charge to student account for anyone participating in solo. Ensemble prices and large groups assessed smaller fee. Two charter busses will be going.


Europe 2010 – Mr. Kidd shared that reservations for 240-250 airline tickets will be made. That number can be reduced by 10 percent if necessary. All those expecting to travel need to get in their payments! All should at least be making the mandatory scheduled payments. Next payment due in May. New e-mail address for band and Europe correspondence it is as follows: musicatcreek@gmail.com.


SCRIP - Noreen Kearn reported February profit from orders totaled $308.70. This included 136 cards with face value of $3,365.00. An additional order of Publix was received (143 cards at $5,000 face value) and Aunt Catfish cards ($250 face value). Since the beginning of the program in August, the band boosters, family and friends have purchased in excess of $70,000 of shopping cards. This has directly provided profit in excess of $4,000 to our organization. ShopwithScrip on-line cards were available for anyone wishing to register at home and view the list of over 200 companies offering cards that may not be on SCHS order form. Shopping cards would be available at the Pancake Breakfast, March 7th.


Premier Designs Jewelry Fundraiser – Kris Light had jewelry catalogs for review for the upcoming event on April 14th. Please also check the band website where the catalog has been scanned for review and orders. All orders should be mailed to name on order form or dropped directly in band box. Please make certain that student’s name is on the form so that credit can be given. Jewelry order will be placed after the April 14th meeting in time for Mother’s Day delivery. Delivery is direct to the customer. 30 percent profit to the student account Short presentation and samples of many jewelry items at the April 14th band meeting. Family Fun Book – an other opportunity for anyone wishing to earn money for his or her student account. Entertainment book sells for $20.00. Proceeds to student account are $10.00.


Adult Staffing – Lynn Kindy shared the upcoming needs for chaperones. March 5th MPA assessment in New Smyrna Beach. Busses will leave school by 5 p.m. Also March 30th for State Solo/Ensemble in Ocala. Six chaperones are needed then. Clipboards for Lakeside Jazz will be circulating. Please sign up for many opportunities to help. Concession help is needed.


Colorguard – Andrea reported that the date for the Friends and Family Show is March 20th at 7 p.m. All are invited.


Uniforms – Mary Boener said that several uniforms were still missing. She urged all present to check around the house for uniforms and return to the band room as soon as possible.


Spring Awards Banquet – Wanda Roberson is in charge of the banquet this year on May 16th. A small group of volunteers are needed. Brief meeting follows for those interested in helping. Cost for banquet is $30.00 Ice cream/dance social around 10 p.m. is planned again for the students after the banquet.


Nominations – Lynn Kaiser-Conrad reported that all interested in having their name placed on the ballot should e-mail musicatcreek@gmail.com . Slate of officers will be presented in April for election in May.


Kick-Off – Volunteers needed to organize this event on June 2nd . Please see Cindy Berdeguez if interested. Also this evening will be a SCHSMPAA Chili’s night. Our organization will receive a percentage of the bill. More on this later.


End of the Year CD – Anthony Malena is in the process of collecting photos for the year in review. Please send on any pictures or video that you would like included to Anthony@malena.net


Treasurer Report - Terri Karol reported that we have $78,415.48 as balance, however, the majority of this is for Europe. Completed budget amendment. Also looking at budget for next year, the increased costs and what the band fees will be next year. All student fees must be current. Student account statements went out today. If you did not receive your account or you have questions, contact Terri at tkarol@cfl.rr.com. Please send in the pancake breakfast money.
