Treasurer Report - Terri Karol reported this report reflects two months, balance on account is $67,272.43, and most of this is for Germany. We have collected what we have budgeted for band fees. Still some outstanding. Make arrangements to get those paid. Luminary amounts have been split to reflect donations of $5,458.76 and sales of $13,784.00. Still awaiting donations from Ci-Ci’s pizza and Wal-Mart. Thank you to Jan Albert and all those that helped. Student account statements went out today. If you did not receive your account or you have questions, contact Terri at tkarol@cfl.rr.com. SunTrust My Cause final payments will be received by April 15th for those still waiting.
Adult Staffing – Lynn Kindy had nothing to report.
SCRIP - Noreen Kearn reported that the after-holiday order amounted to 74 cards with face value of $1,615.00. An additional order of Publix was received (143 cards at $5,000 face value) for a total profit this month of $224.60. It was predicted that this after-holiday order would be smaller. Total profit from August to date is $3,884.70. All were encouraged to participate. Total of inventory available for sale at Tuesday’s general meeting was $6,283.00. With orders being filled during the meeting, the total of cards sold amounted to $3,646.00.
Spring Awards Banquet – Wanda Roberson is in charge of the banquet this year on May 16th. A small group of volunteers are needed. See Wanda if you would like to help.
Orchestra/Lakeside Jazz – Kevin Tilley reported on the News Journal Center, it would take $2,400 to open the doors, the State won’t review/approve the budget until May, therefore no option for using it this year. Orchestra MPA will be February 21st at Seabreeze High School approx. 8:00 a.m. All-County Orchestra & Jazz Band performances will be at SCHS March 21, 2009 7 – 9 p.m. Visits to Hinson and OBMS in late February to showcase program to incoming freshman are planned. Kevin also reported on the LSJ. The date is April 17th and April 18th this year. Brighthouse is still sponsor with $5,000 donation. However, CBL (Mall property owner) has notified us that they will be unable to sponsor this event. Their contribution was to be $7,500. Waste collectors in Port Orange are on board with sponsorship, but we do not know how much yet. Still in need of several $100 trophy sponsors. Contact Mary Hoag if interested. Friday headliners – US Marine All-Star Jazz Band. They will be at our disposal from Thursday a.m. through Saturday noon. Planning dinner/dance with 12o’clock jazz band Thursday night, possibly at the new Eagles/VFW in Port Orange. Next meeting February 19th at 7:00 p.m.
Colorguard – Beth Carpenter stated that the group was still traveling further to practice in Holly Hill. They were carpooling and also practicing a couple times a week in the school gym. First show a week or two ago, came in 8th – doing well. Next performance on February 14th at Colonial High School. Courtney Rice Benefit is Friday night 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon 3 p.m. at Port Orange Presbyterian Church –four members will be performing. This benefit is held yearly for scholarship for seniors. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the band banquet on May 16th. Would love to go to Dayton – no funding – if anyone is aware of any organization wishing to donate money, please direct them to Beth.
Nominations – All interested in having their name placed on the ballot should speak with Lynn Kaiser-Conrad soon. Slate of officers must be presented in April for election in May. Several openings are available.
Pancake Breakfast – date is Saturday, March 7th this year.
Concert in the Park – March 14, 2009 – 7 p.m. Concept, swap with City, goods and services, use of pavilion. Minimal concessions needed. Estimate 250 in attendance.
Director’s Notes - Mr. Butler congratulated all those selected for All-State and All-County this year. Some band fees are still needed ($6,000). Please make sure that you continue payments on those accounts. We would also like to have another fundraiser that would provide $5,000 profit. If you have any ideas, please see him or Mr. Kidd. Very busy time with district solo/ensemble and rehearsals for FBA, also jazz performances. Please refer to band website www.creekband.org for all current calendar postings/changes.
Europe 2010 – Mr. Butler reported that the “preview group” consisting of Directors Kidd, Butler, and McKaig and Spirit Group leader Susan MacKenzie and Vice President Cindy Berdeguez visited many of the sites over the MLKing holiday. Photo presentation on the travels to Germany was shown to all parents at the general meeting.
Premier Designs Jewelry Fundraiser – Kris Light explained the one time event to take place April 14th General Meeting. The jewelry is high quality, beautiful, stylish and guaranteed. Jewelry will be available for preview and purchase at 6 p.m. and again after the meeting. Profit of thirty (30%) percent of the jewelry sales that are collected in the name of the student (student name must appear on order form) will be credited to that student’s account as a way to fund the Germany trip. Orders will ship directly to the customer’s address. Customers may start placing orders on March 3rd. Orders will only be processed on April 16th. Payment by cash, check or credit card.
