General Meeting November 4, 2008

Call to Order: 7:05 p.m.

Luminary - Jan Albert passed around the clipboard for all working luminary event to confirm information. 175 students / 45 cars needed for December 6th and 13th . Extra help needed in sand area for loading this year. Target turned down request for bags, 3,000 needed and secured. Everything is under control. Maps were all ready. Suggested that drivers have a map book available for their use on that day. Car must be able to hold four students and approx. 40 kits and sand. Drivers should bring $30.00 in singles to start for change. Kits are $6.00. A cooler with waters would be good. All cars will leave around 9 a.m. Advance orders sheets going home before Thanksgiving. Construction/reconstruction of kits on November 24 and 25th.


SCRIP - Noreen Kearn reported that the profit on orders placed this month after readily available are sold is $641.82. This brings total profit for SCRIP program in three months to $1,496.50. Deadline for all holiday orders will be December 9th and not December 15th. All orders must be received in the band box by that date. Orders can be picked up at the PRISM concert on December 18th. Publix cards are currently in and available for purchase. Also, be certain to dispose of used cards so no confusion with funded cards in wallet. If any problems occur with any card, refer first to the back of the card to obtain either a toll free number or website to confirm the card history and balance remaining.


Treasurer Report - Terri Karol reviewed profit and loss budget vs. actual, some fees still outstanding. Arrangements need to be made to pay those fees. Pancake breakfast net to band $2,181.55. Expenses totaled $300.00. Student account totals = $1,040. Germany donations are coming in. You can continue to send your money to Terri and she will forward to tour company as group payment by due date. You will receive two statements one for the trip and one for the regular band account. Notify Terri when you want a transfer of dollars from one account to the other. Contact David McGuffin if you had trouble receiving his recent statement.


Director’s Notes - Mr. Kidd reported the band received straight superiors at FBA Festival on Saturday! Anyone that purchased programs at Deland that evening can receive a revised copy. Those copies should be in within one week. The reprint will have the correct photo. Thursday evening is Senior Appreciation Night and Middle School Band Night. 280 students will be on the field playing Star Spangled Banner that evening. Middle school students will return home between 3rd and 4th quarters. November 13th is Atlantic Game at New Smyrna Beach Stadium and not November 14th as previously scheduled. Playoff game is set for Friday, November 21st at New Smyrna Beach stadium. That is all that is known at this time. Help needed with complete roster of names of parents and students. Many not receiving e-mails. Please e-mail Mr. Kidd musicatcreek@aol.com if you are not receiving his weekly Sunday e-mails. News of Grammy Signature School Music School finalist was shared. One of 147 in nation, only 7 schools from the state of Florida and 4 or 5 are magnet schools. Rehearsal schedule for orchestra and concert groups posted. PRISM concert set for December 18th 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church on Clyde Morris Blvd. Larger venue, pass the shako and introduce Europe travel with news/T.V. coverage. Individual photos and composites will be taken on November 24th and 25th during Santa’s sweatshop. Armand is working with orchestra students on Tuesdays for extra instruction. Port Orange Christmas parade is Sunday, December 7th. Step off is 2 p.m., meet at Jackson Street behind Ross Dress for Less at 1 p.m. Several students made TriState this year Ali Berdeguez, Amanda Light and Ashley Stuart. Also, Alex Kapacinskas and Melissa Hernandez will be traveling to USF. Ashley Stuart auditioned and was selected as the Concerto winner with the Florida Youth Orchestra. Free tickets are available to the Daytona Beach Symphony on November 23rd at 3 p.m. Meet at auditorium to hear Jacksonville Symphony at Peabody auditorium. 170 have paid their $150.00 deposit for Europe travel. Approx. 60 spots remain. Pre-site visit in January. More information at February meeting. Next Lakeside Jazz meeting is Thursday, November 21st at 7 p.m. All-County auditions at New Smyrna Beach High School will be Wednesday, November 19th for band. All-State results will be posted soon. Orchestra All-County auditions will be held at Deltona High School on Wednesday, December 17th. Mr. Butler will update band website.

Colorguard - Andrea Stuart shared that only one group would be involved in Winter Guard this year. . Rehearsals are still being held at the church on Beville Road. Hoping to travel to Ohio.


Uniforms - Mary Flinn-Boener reported that all tuxedo/dresses are in. Jackets will be in within a week. Contact John’s Bridal for anything that needs fitted. Lengthy discussion on the cleaning of the uniforms, the care of the uniforms and enforcement of the rules concerning drinking and eating while in uniform. Many students are disregarding the rules and uniforms are permanently stained because of this.


Staffing - Lynn Kindy stated that chaperones were still needed for upcoming events. Clipboards were passed around.
