General Meeting August 12, 2008

Treasurer’s Report - Terri Karol reported the cash balance was $40,938.27. Call Terri with any questions you may have on student accounts. E-mail address is T.Karol@cfl.rr.com Football ads to date $7,800.00. Budget is $30,000.00 for this major fundraiser. Please have students sell ads and turn in money to box in band room. Fifty percent of each ad goes directly to student account. These are then credits to be used for student fees, etc. Band fees $250.00/ Orchestra or Jazz only - $175.00 Fees need to be paid by September 15th. Report cards will be obligated. Payment schedule is available, just see Band Directors or Terri. Mail payments to: Spruce Creek High School Band, P.O. Box 290572, Port Orange, FL 32127.
Football Program - Anthony Malena stated that football ad deadline is August 22nd so that program is ready for the first home football game. Family ads are available for $25.00. Clipboard passed around for volunteers to sell football programs at games. Questions - contact Anthony@malena.net.
Staffing – Lynn Kindy passed around clipboards for various games. Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) forms would need to be on file for all volunteers this year again. If you did not fill one out at the June 3rd kick-off meeting, do so soon so that clearance can be obtained from County. Chaperones must ride bus. No siblings permitted to ride busses due to liability. First game is Seabreeze at New Smyrna Beach. Report time is 5-5:30 p.m. One chaperone per 10 students. Black polo and khaki pants or khaki shorts is the required outfit for chaperones. September 12th – second game, New Smyrna @ New Smyrna Beach. All health forms / emergency contact information needs to be updated. If any veteran parent did not attend the June 3rd kick-off, please see that Lynn has updated contact information. Orange backpacks/first-aid kits travel with the band. There must be a medical form for all students. September 13th – FSU Band Day. Report 6 a.m. Return after midnight – optional trip. $25.00 person – includes ticket for game, transportation and boxed lunch.
Field Crew - Jerry MacKenzie explained the volunteer opportunities within the field crew. Help students load and unload the trailer for each performance. Wear orange t-shirts, transportation by truck – balance of crew follows in own vehicle. Eleven currently signed up, more are welcome to assist.
Directors Report - Mr. McKaig reported that the guard had learned the opener, first and second songs of drill were on the field. They have been working hard – two practices every week since May. They look good and still like each other! Dominica Strader is an assisting, alumnus of SCHS and UCF Knights. Joy Harper, assisting as well. Mr. Kidd introduced Mr. Michael Butler – originally from Tennessee, Bachelors of Music Education from Tennessee Technological Institute / Masters of Music in Instrumental Conducting from University of Florida. Best band camp in recent memory on Day #2. Learned opener, Star Spangled Banner, Fight Song. Drumline / pit – percussion – fabulous – exciting. No discipline problems. Friendly and mannerly. Thanks parents. Rules of the room. NO HATS. NO FOOD OR DRINK, NO TEXTING. If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time – YOU’RE LATE. Self-discipline, mistakes in drill = pushups. “GUNKIE” – term of affection. All must obtain signature of officers. Gunkies through spring banquet ceremony. Friday, August 15th, impromptu show beginning at 5:30 on field followed by dinner in the freshman atrium. Covered dish. All sections to bring item to share. Boosters provide hot dogs and condiments, sections of band to bring the following:
Flutes – Desserts; Clarinets – Side dish; A. Sax – Salads/Fruit; T. Sax – Salads/Fruit; Trumpets – Coke drink product; French Horns – Chips; Baritones – Chips; Trombones – Coke drink product; Tuba – Coke drink product; Percussion – bottled water; Guard – Dessert/Side dish.
Various calendar changes were discussed. Please refer to the website frequently - all changes will be posted.
September 13th – FSU Band Day – two charter busses - $25.00 (this price may change) Leave 6:00 a.m. return after midnight. Game time is 3:45 p.m.
September 15th Europe 2010 (Spring Break) deposit of $150.00 per person is due. Travel to Munich, Salzburg, Netherlands. Invitations to perform from mayors of Munich and Salzburg. Idea would be 45 minute Prism-like concert to include entire performing arts program. – Cost - $2,200.00 More on this at next meeting.
ColorGuard Decal Sale – Sale of window/car decals for individual instruments or guard positions available. Order time is approximately one week and cost is $6.00 or 2 for $10.00. See Beth Carpenter if interested.
Suntrust “My-Cause” Account – John Skora explained that the program had been extended and again a great opportunity to have student account funded with $100.00 dollars. Visit any Suntrust bank for details of this program. Forms also available on table in band room.
