General Meeting May 6, 2008

Lakeside Jazz - Susan MacKenzie stated that this event was a great success. Thanks to all workers. Many letters of praise received - plan to put them on website. Wrap-up meeting May 15th. Participation best ever. Scholarships will be awarded at band banquet.
Kick-Off - Cindy Berdeguez explained the June 3rd event. Parents and students will attend a presentation in the band room and then move into the atrium for table rotations. All veteran and incoming students must attend. The evening begins at 6 p.m. and will conclude at 9 p.m. Football program fundraiser packets will be passed out that evening. All parents should be prepared with checkbook and/or credit card for payment of band fees.
Football Program - Anthony Malena has been working on the football program packets. Ads and printouts available on-line. Senior wills and testaments will be dealt with. Thank you to Anthony for his effort. $29,000.00 was raised last year. July 15th is the deadline for veteran ads this year. Suggestion to list on the website those companies that have declined an ad so that continued solicitation did not annoy those former patrons. Questions - contact Anthony@malena.net. Reminder - all students are required to secure one fair-share ad. After that, fifty percent of all ads go to band and remainder fifty percent to student account. DVD order forms for year in review and senior videos due by May 9th.
Directors Report - Mr. Seth explained his news that he was resigning from SCHS and would be moving to Flagler Palm Coast High School. He had been offered a position as head band director. Team teaching between high school and middle school. The county is growing, very supportive of music programs. County funds program with dollars. Thank you to everyone for your support and help over the years. Last Thursday State Orchestra Festival. Very proud of accomplishments, great kids, worked very hard and improved so much. Straight 2's and 1 in sight reading.
Mr. Kidd - Reminder graduation is over the Memorial Day weekend. Sunday at noon in the Ocean Center. Students are expected to attend the final performance for the year. This is their final exam grade. Clothing to be worn should be “nice” clothes. Search for the new director will occur after May 15th. First teacher positions have to be secured for the 288 tenured teachers that are without jobs. Then we can officially advertise the position on the website for ten days. Three resumes have already been received today. Drumline summer practices. School will only be open Monday through Thursday. Closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More information later.
Treasurer’s Report - Terri Karol reported the cash balance was $26,674.33. Still a few band fees outstanding. Obligations have been placed. Unable to get report cards. Directors did a great job of controlling expenditures. Net on the year $13,000.00 Thank you to all for your hard work. Reminder that Suntrust Bank is still opening “My Cause” accounts. A great way to save money for band accounts. Over $7,200.00 to date has come in to the band account and still more checks to be received. Thank you to Terri for her continued dedication.
Banquet - Date is Saturday, May 17th , 5:00 p.m., at the Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center. Invites were sent out and money is due on Friday. Cost per attendee is $29.00. Large groups needing seating should plan to arrive early. Dance follows the banquet for students only. Begins at 9 p.m. and will conclude around 11:30 – 11:45 p.m. Ice cream sundae bar. Music by DJ has been donated.
Travel Plans - Good and Bad news shared by Mr. Kidd. Did not get Macy’s invitation to march in the Thanksgiving 2009 parade. Band from Panhandle area of Florida was invited. Good news is that he had been working for some time on European Tour in 2010 for Symphonic Bands, Orchestra, Color Guard and Jazz Bands to visit Netherlands, Munich and Salzburg over Spring Break in 2010. Rough itinerary was passed out. Approximate cost would be $2,200.00 per student or adult. $150.00 down payment due on September 15, 2008. Monthly payment plans ($136.00) with all payments by December 2009. Cancellation insurance mandatory part of the cost. No school missed as travel will be during break. School board approval should not be a problem. All seniors graduating in 2009 would be permitted to attend. Once in a lifetime opportunity Fundraising to defray cost of trip. School Board to approve by September of this year. Money down needed to lock in airline reservations. Start acquiring passports now if you do not have one.
Band Captain Report CJ stated that OCS would begin on Thursday for all students interested in leadership positions for next year. Mr. Kidd and drum majors would be running it this year. Thank you to all parents for the dedication and help over the year. CJ said that he had grown as a person and enjoyed his time as the band captain this year. Applause for CJ.
Webmaster - Anthony Malena indicated that the end-of-the-year DVD was in production. Forms for ordering copies were on the table. You can still send in photos for inclusion for about one more week. After that it will be too late to have the material included.

Colorguard - Andrea Stuart announced that at the Relay for Life $400.00 was raised. They received the Best Campsite award and Mr. McKaig again landed the Queen of the Relay award. Competition was stiff.
“For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was sung to Mr. Seth and
“Happy Birthday” was sung to Mr. Kidd.
