General Meeting March 4, 2008

Call to Order: 7:05 p.m.


Susan MacKenzie, President, welcomed everyone.

Pledge to the American Flag


Motion to approve minutes of February 5, 2008 - Kevin Tilley

Passed unanimously.


Treasurer Report – $38,219.97 is balance, however large amount is color guard trip money. $7,000.00 in budget for fees still uncollected. Student obligations will go out next week. Fundraiser income looking good, auction was adjusted to $5,000.00, should be in good shape. Realigned budget. Suntrust check received in amount of $5,000.00. Third largest charity. Still time to sign up - deadline to enroll. Parents check into my cause rewards available when using debit card for extra benefits. Students updated account will be available. Equipment charges have been added to student accounts. Band banquet tickets, if invite is extended, will be able to go through student accounts. 50 hrs. are required to “get invited” to the band banquet. Update on hours will be posted so. All students should check for their totals.


Orchestra Report - The orchestra will travel to Bradenton on March 15th, the same date as silent auction. All students should bring in their auction items by the due date. All superiors during recent district festival at Seabreeze. Please check score sheets posted on board. Last week in April is State orchestra.


Pancake Breakfast - Mr. & Mrs. Kidd will be the host and hostess for this event. Kevin Tilley and Kim Bouck were recognized for their securing the donations of 1,600 sausage and purchase of balance needed. Thank you to Wanda Roberson for her efforts in securing the butter, syrup, coffee cups, etc. needed for the breakfast. Other supplies were found in the shed. Orange juice was purchased for $1.76 a gallon from Walmart. 4,000 flyers have been placed in beachside hotels/motels. Upstairs and downstairs of Aunt Catfish’s will be used and possibly the outside area if needed. 10 adults and 20 student volunteers are needed. Sign up sheets were posted on the chalkboard. Arrive around 7 a.m. and clean up by 10:45 a.m. Two students will be wearing the Hawk costume. Small jazz band on deck. Tip jars on every table.


Silent Auction –Tecla Lucignani reported current rental space for community fair/silent auction at 20 vendors. Donation of $50.00 will be assessed to the vendors. Concerts throughout the day. Donation of baskets and other items all this week in early hours before school starts. Students are responsible for 2 items valued at $20.00 each and also one group basket valued at $40.00 A few volunteers needed to assist in the morning this week while the items are being received in the band room. Clipboards were circulated for other auction help. Items will be stored in the POD or transported to air conditioned space if necessary. Help needed for set up on Friday evening in school atrium/cafeteria. Balance of help needed for auction day. Parents spread the word about the auction. Flyers to be distributed to area merchants.


Adult Staffing - Help is needed for upcoming Lakeside Jazz Festival in April. At this time just place your name and e-mail address/phone number on the sheet. Many opportunities to help. Shirt size will be needed for volunteers. Next meeting for Lakeside Jazz is Thursday, March 27th at 7 p.m. in the band room.


Uniforms - Cindy Berdeguez reported that uniforms were out for cleaning and that a savings occurred this year with each student cleaning his/her uniform once. Save tenderly used black shoes for Cindy and she will store them in the closet for anyone needing them for orchestra/concert performances. New jackets have arrived (21) if you ordered one. Composite photos are also in and should be picked up from her. Parents please check around the house for any missing band uniform items and have them returned to the uniform closet as soon as possible.


Colorguard –“A” guard is working hard. Show is intense - technique coming along. Regionals this weekend. Preliminary round and then on to finals. Pressure to continue the tradition. Friends and Family Show will be held on Friday, March 21, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. Please plan to attend.

Gearing up for Ohio. Girls are currently seeking donations to defray the expenses of the winter season.


Concessions - Silent Auction concessions will be as follows: A.M., coffee, juice and muffins. Donations of any items will be appreciated. P.M. . hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, nachos and cheese. Sign up sheets were passed around - four hour shifts.


Lakeside Jazz - March 20th meeting has been rescheduled until March 27th at 7 p.m. in the band room. Everyone is welcome to attend and lots of help is needed. Clipboards were circulated. $100.00 sponsor is needed for Outstanding Combo. Name will be placed on plaque. Any leftover silent auction items will be available for bid or chinese auction during the festival. April meeting will be on the 10th at 7 p.m. Many outstanding college bands have signed up this year. UNF, FSU, UCF, Stetson, Daytona Beach, to name a few and of course Navy Band.


Directors Report - Mr. Seth is on stage for last full rehearsal. Orchestra brought home great scores. Friday afternoon concert and symphonic bands travel to Lake Mary High School for District Festival. One tour bus will travel back and forth. April 8th is FBA State Solo & Ensemble and Jazz Bands at West Port High School in Ocala, Florida. If a band makes it to state, travel will be either April 14th or April 15th at Vero Beach or University of North Florida. Cost of charter busses have skyrocketed to $850 to $900. Band banquet by invite only May 17th, more on this later.
