Board Meeting July 31, 2007

Call to Order: 7:05 p.m.

Susan MacKenzie welcomed everyone and asked that all introduce themselves.

No treasurer’s report was given as Teri Karol was on vacation.


Football Ad Report - Anthony Malena was not present but Mr. Kidd reported that he had a lot of ads that had come into the P.O. Box or were mailed to the school address and would need to be entered and credited to the correct student account by Teri Karol and then given to Anthony so that he could update the website. Slow response to date but not an emergency situation yet, still early. Mr. Kidd will increase the pressure at the upcoming band parents meeting as well as through band camp and explain again the importance of this fund raiser. Discussion about the costs of printing, binding, etc. The printing will be bid upon. The $30.00 fair share ad is required by all those in the music program.


Band Camp Report - Mr. Kidd reported that band camp would run from August 13-18, 2007 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Lunches again would be available for purchase. Field usage would again be shared and costs of lining the practice fields split with football team. Looking for a donation of scaffolding. Will be sending out e-mail to parents. Also, aging portable sound system to be replaced. Susan Salerno reported that band camp lunches would be arranged like last year. Cost to be determined yet. Drinks will be supplied as well as fruit items. Students may still bring their own lunch. Discussion about a barbeque at the end of band camp and conflict with Saturday date and start of college for many families during that same weekend. Friday, August 17th may be a better night for barbeque.


Color Guard - Mr. McKaig reported that the group has been working hard throughout the summer and progress has been made. There are 29 gals and 2 guys in the group this year.


Calendar Review - September 8, 2007 FSU trip. Four charter busses, pay as you go. Up and back in one day. September 15, 2007 - All State (may be hosting). Homecoming Dance and Game weekend of October 26, 2007. No travel to St. Augustine this year because of the homecoming schedule. Marching Festival may be on October 20th at University High School. November 3, 2007 is FBA Marching Festival. November 10, 2007 is possible marching show. Luminary Kit assembly is November 15th and 16th along with Music Picture Day. Luminary Sale occurs on December 1st and 8th this year. These are also SAT and ACT weekends. Port Orange Christmas Parade is December 2, 2007. Also, Disney may or may not permit local marching bands at the annual Christmas Parade. Mr. Kidd would check with Universal to determine if they will extend an invite to march. Prismconcert set for December 14, 2007.

Band Trip - Mr. Kidd announced invitation dated July 23, 2007 from AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic to attend a music festival in Dallas, Texas on December 29, 2007 - January 1, 2008. Lengthy discussion followed concerning the itinerary papers that were passed out and travel details. The festival would be open to the entire music program. Fund raisers to defray cost of attending possible car washes, Coke sales, etc. Mr. Kidd to prepare budget and get School Board approval.

Adult Staffing - Lynn Kindy reported that sign up sheets for first game August 31, 2007 would be up during booster meeting. Volunteers in Public School (VIPS) forms would be updated. Scott Light requested to be added to the Sam’s Club Account in addition to Kris Light so that he could purchase those items needed for concessions throughout the season.


Grants - Lynn Kaiser-Conrad requested that all board members prepare a biographical summary and submit it in WORD to her via e-mail at LKC1529@hotmail.com by August 14, 2007, the date of the booster meeting. This would be used in her work with local agencies, foundations, businesses in securing grant money.


Lakeside Jazz - Susan MacKenzie reported that Lakeside Jazz is in danger of not existing due to budgetary cuts. The City of Port Orange is not authorizing any money to be used on staff. In discussions with City personnel, they may incorporate the jazz festival with the Concerts in the Park series. There is a presentation on August 21st in front of City Council on this matter. Mr. Kidd wanted to explore non profit status as a 501(c)(3). He asked that Jim Kearn contact him regarding the particulars.


Luminary - Jan Albert reported that she had already secured the prizes for high sales of luminary kits. She also has been working on ordering supplies, saving dollars on candles and sand and printing expenses. Sign up sheets with drivers will need a few more names on them.


Special Events - Susan Salerno reiterated lunches will be taken care of. Color Guard will take care of their own lunches. Band Banquet date was set for May 17th. Graduation in 2008 is set for May 25th.


Uniforms - Cindy Berdeguez stated that uniform measurements would be done during orientation week at the school. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, August 6-8th, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. Thursday and Friday, August 9-10th, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. John’s Bridal

would again be available to measure for new jackets, slacks, vests, etc. Berets with school crest have been ordered for tuba players. Their cost will be $12.00. Depending on the needs of the student, prices would range from $60.00 for a jacket, $65.00 for a dress which includes a garment bag. All students would be responsible for purchasing their own concert clothes.
