March 6, 2007 General Meeting
- Joe Mongato called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Minutes from the February meeting were approved.
- Lauren Rizzo gave the band report. Students did very well
at solo and ensemble. State will be on March 28th. Adam
Kornecki, piano, and Tyler Clibbons, alto sax, received best in show at
FSU. The trombone section also won best section at FSU. There was a
freshman orientation at SCHS and there are lots of new recruits. Middle
school solo and ensemble, at SCHS, went very well. Mrs. Lucignani came to
speak to the music classes about the auction.
- It is critical that we reach our goal for the auction.
Student accounts were mailed out. If you have any budget or account
questions, contact Terri Karol.
- The final roster for the bands and orchestra are available
in the band room.
- Senior wills are due. If you have a senior, remind them
to turn in their last will and testament along with their photos to Mr.
McKaig or Ms. Watts.
- We need help with the auction. Please sign up to help.
Students will be bringing in their gift baskets the week of April 2. We
need a few parents each day that week to help label the baskets.
- Concessions at middle school solo and ensemble went well.
Kris Light thanked everyone who came to help.
- Lakeside Jazz Festival is April 20th and 21st.
Students will work in shifts on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the jazz
band will perform from12 noon to 4:00pm at the “combo stage” during the
art festival. There will be bands from several Florida colleges, Michigan and North Carolina as well as the Navy and Army bands. Tony Garner, a senior, was
able to have 1000 CD’s, 1000 CD labels and 1000 jewel cases donated for
the festival. We will need parent help during the auction and jazz
festival. Please contact Lynn Kindy if you can help.
- Color guard competed at Colonial High School. Both teams
will compete in Jacksonville. State competition is in Ocala March 27th.
The guard will have their “Friends and Family” show on March 15th
in the school gym.
- The orchestra, symphonic band, concert band, 12 and 11 O’clock jazz bands and the chorus all scored superiors on their district assessments.
The 10 O’clock jazz band scored an excellent. The 12 O’clock jazz band performed at the FSU Jazz Festival. State solo and ensemble is March 28th.
Charter buses will be leaving the school early in the morning. The
pyramid concert has been canceled. The Spring concert for bands and
orchestra will be April 12th at the school. State Concert
Festival is the week of May 1st. Bands will travel to Flaglar Palm Coast; the orchestra will travel to Bradenton. Details for state will follow.
The band banquet will be Saturday, May 12th at the 500 Club at
the Speedway. Tickets are $25 per person. There has been an increase in
price this year due to an increase in rental, staging and sound system
rental fees at the speedway. Band camp will meet the week before school
starts in August.
- The meeting was dismissed at 8:00pm. The next parent meeting is scheduled for May 1st at 7:00pm. Please plan to attend to vote for next year’s officers.
