Call to Order: 7:35 p.m.

President Weimer is unable to attend this evening. The meeting will be conducting by Mr. Joe Papa, First Vice-President.

Parliamentarian: Anita Lapidus

-Welcome to the many new faces

Band Captain’s Report: Jenna Wheeler

-District Concert Festival was a great experience

-12:00 Jazz Band received straight superiors

-Lakeside Jazz Festival was a great success

-Silent Auction was a great success

-Thank you for all the hard work and support

Secretary’s Report: Jane Weimer

Treasurer’s Report: Stan Schmidt

-See handouts

-$8,000.00+ was raised at the Silent Auction

-$700.00 raised at the Coke Sale

-Dixie Classic monies collected: $22,094.00

-$34,600.00 in our account

Directors Report: Mr. Kidd and Mr. Hornilla

-Wind Ensemble’s performance was great, but only received an excellent rating. The comments from the judges were wonderful.

-Orchestra: District Festival was held at Seabreeze High School

-Student behavior was outstanding

-Strong applause from the audience

-Superior Rating

-Will perform at Bishop’s Glenn

-Orchestra calendar for the rest of the year is available on the table

-On March 11th the School Board recognized the Music Department on their selection as a Demonstration School

-Percussion Workshops are being held once a month

-Drum Line is coming along nicely under the direction of Doug Beard

-The green handout is the schedule for Marching Band for next year

-8th grade orientation will be held next Tuesday

Lakeside Jazz Festival:

-37 Bands participated

-2 no shows

-Thursday is the recap meeting. We will find out what was made on the festival

-Will keep start up money for next year’s festival

-Scholarships for summer camps, leadership camps, etc. is raised through the Jazz Festival

-State Festival: both Jazz Bands participated. 12:00 received straight superiors. The 11:00 band received excellent

-12:00 Jazz Band will play at the Honors Banquet on April 10th. 6:15 p.m. is set up. Students don’t have to wear their tux outfits. This is a dressy occasion. Please dress appropriately.

-Combos will play at the Hilton on May 3, 2003 before the Band Banquet

-Prism Concert: Friday, May 9, 2003 in our newly renovated auditorium

-2 rehearsals are scheduled.

-Wednesday, May 7th from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Blocking the event will occur on this day

-Thursday, May 8th from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is the dress rehearsal

-May be an admission charge this year. Many schools use this type of concert as a fundraising activity. We usually just “pass the hat.”

-VIP Recognition Day Breakfast is May 1st at 8:00 a.m. Awards ceremony begins at 9:00 a.m. SCHS has the most volunteer hours in the Secondary Education Department.

-Dixie Classic: canceled due to the war in Iraq

-$4,000.00 set to AWOL Travel Agency to secure the rooms, riverboat cruise.

-AWOL sent $16,000.00 and is trying to get the money back

-Worse case scenario is we will be out the $4,000.00

-We will wait another week before we decide what to do about refunds

-Will be a choice of two:

-Keep in the student account toward next year’s season

-Refund of the money put in toward the trip

-Summer Camps:

-Many brochures are on the table. Please consider sending your student to one of these camps. They are very beneficial

-See Mr. Kidd for further clarification

-Football Ad Campaign:

-The packets will be ready for distribution at the 8th grade orientation on Tuesday, April 8th

-The veterans will receive their packets at the Band Banquet

-Solo and Ensemble:

-Several Solos received a superior rating

-Several Solos received an excellent rating

-Senior Photos are due for the Band Banquet Video. Parents: all photos are due by April 4th. TV production department needs a lead-time on this

-We need one Senior Photo. The rest can be your choice. Please submit photos that show your child’s progression from infancy through senior year

-Last Will and Testaments from the Seniors: These are needed ASAP. Books are presented at the Banquet. Mr. Kidd and Mr. McKaig will read one-minute scripts.

Color Guard Report: Mr. Shawn McKaig

-Competed in National Competition in Miami

-This has been a great group to travel with!

-Silver medals received. Wonderful comments from the judges and other directors. Great comments on the website from the general public

-Bette Webb recorded the year in photos. Many will be used for the “Year in Review” for the band banquet

-Students are encouraged to submit photos for this. All photos will be returned

-Please mark all photos with your name. Address labels work wonderfully for this

-Thank you to all who helped

-97 out of 172 students secured items for the auction

-$8,000.00+ made on this event

-Extra items are for sale tonight. Please stop by and look over the selection

Band Banquet: Donna Papa

-Reservations are being taken

-Special consideration will be given to Seniors and their Parents

-Will not have reserved seating for the underclassmen

-Please get your reservations and money in as soon as possible


Nominating Committee: Anita Lapidus

-Slate of Officers for 2003-2004 was presented

-Discussion of rules that will be followed for nominating and voting

-Campaign speeches will be heard at the May meeting

-Please: -no mud slinging

-No derogatory comments

-Keep to concerns

Question: What procedure was used by the nominating committee?

-3 people on the committee plus the directors and president

-Didn’t use multiple nominations to do slate

Nominations from the floor: Ken Palmer for parliamentarian

Nominations from the floor will be accepted at the May meeting

Elections will be held next month. Please be in attendance for this important meeting.
