General Meeting April 7, 2008

Call to Order: 7:05 p.m.


Susan MacKenzie, President, welcomed everyone.

Adult Staffing - Lynn Kindy reported that no chaperones were needed for tomorrow’s Solo & Ensemble trip. Few chaperones are needed for the April 15th trip to FBA State Concert Band Festival at University of North Florida. Report 4:30 p.m. Orchestra State Performance Assessment on May 1st at Gibsonton, Florida - East Bay High School. Lori Figgins needs names of volunteers for Lakeside Jazz Festival, April 18th and 19th. Clipboards were passed around.


Banquet - More information at next meeting. Date is Saturday, May 17th , 5:00 p.m., at the Daytona Beach Resort and Conference Center. Invites will be sent out to all those students who have met their service hour requirement.


Colorguard – CJ reported that things were going great. The “AA”” guard competes at State. Placed seventh over spring break. Gearing up for Ohio - leave on Wednesday.


Football Program - Anthony Malena could use help in assembling the football packets for the June kick-off. In process of sorting previous ads. Packets should be ready in next few weeks.


Kick-Off - Wanda Roberson, Jan Albert and Cindy Berdeguez will chair event. Kick-off date is set for Tuesday, June 3rd, orientations for 2008-2009 school year. All new students and returning students should be present with parent/guardian.


Lakeside Jazz - Susan MacKenzie stated that everything was in full swing. Sign up now for various positions. All are invited to attend the final meeting to be held in the band room on Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 p.m. Exact details to be discussed. News-Journal very interested this year in any and all information concerning the festival. Silent auction items will be available as a Chinese auction. Schedule of performers being revised this evening by Mrs. Kidd. Students are to bring cases of water to LSJ prior to working their shift. The Navy Band will not be performing this year.


Orchestra Report - the group will be traveling on May 1st to East Bay High School, near Tampa. No report time is set yet but the performance time is 12:00 p.m.


Webmaster - Anthony Malena indicated that the end-of-the-year DVD was in production. Forms for ordering copies were on the table. You can still send in photos for inclusion for about one more week. After that it will be too late to have the material included.

Silent Auction –Tecla Lucignani is looking for help in setting up the items for Lakeside Jazz. The items would be handled as a Chinese auction. All those with winning tickets would need to claim their items by Saturday. Contact Tecla if you would like to help her.


Directors Report - Mr. Seth explained the upcoming events. Report time for Tuesday, Solo & Ensemble - 5:30 a.m., bus would leave by 6:00 a.m. Send students with dollars for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Anticipate a 6p.m. departure time from Westport High School and return to Spruce Creek by 8-8:30 p.m. Bus is tight.

One more rehearsal with Symphonic Band on Monday, April 14th from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. May not take long.

Report time on Tuesday, April 15th is 4:30 p.m., for the State Music Performance Assessment , bus to leave at 5:00 p.m. , for the University of North Florida. Performance is at 8:40 p.m. Return back to Spruce Creek around 11:30 p.m.

End of the Year Concert is Friday, May 2, 2008 with the Band and Orchestra performing.

Students are expected to attend the final performance for the year which is the Graduation ceremony at the Ocean Center on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at noon. This is their final exam grade. Clothing to be worn should be “nice” clothes.


Mr. Kidd reported that the 12 o’clock Jazz Band will once again play music before the Honors Banquet on Monday, April 21st. Begin around 5 p.m. and be done by 7 p.m.

Both jazz bands will be present in New Smyrna Beach on the 3rd of May from noon to 3 p.m. for the Riverfest - an event held in a park behind the library.

Lakeside Jazz set up at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 17th. Last meeting, Thursday, April 10th at 7 p.m. Lots of help is needed.

While seniors are at Grad Night at Disney on Friday, April 25th, several teams from band will be involved in the Relay for Life event at the City Center. Teams will walk throughout the evening into the next day (5:30 p.m. - 9:00 a.m.) Show of support in the community.

Senior parents, please return the photos for the Senior video. If no photos are returned, a stick-figure will be inserted.

There were no nominations from the floor. Election at May 6, 2008 meeting.
