Spruce Creek High School Music Performing Arts Association

General Meeting, January 9, 2007

Minutes from the December 5, 2006 meeting were approved.

Band Captain:  Lauren Rizzo thanked all the parents for their help with the luminary sale.  She also congratulated the students for their production of the Prism Concert.

Director’s Report:  Luminaria sales were $27,000.  Mr. Seth reviewed the all county schedule for orchestra and band.  Many of the students are also preparing for solo and ensemble in early February.  In addition, senior students who are interested in continuing their music education/performance in college should be working on their audition material.  New music department calendars will be available at the next meeting.

N-J Concert:  The concert at the News-Journal Center has been cancelled.  Only 19 tickets for the early show and 49 tickets for the evening show were sold.  The directors did not want the students performing before and empty house and did not feel that we could compete with the Air Force Reserve Band performing at the Peabody.

The Daytona Beach Symphony Society is providing tickets for students for the upcoming concerts.  A school bus will be provided to and from the concert.  Please see the calendar for dates and times.

Middle School Solo and Ensemble:  This will be hosted at Spruce Creek on February 23 and 24.  Help will be needed on Friday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.  We are in need of parent help on Saturday the 24th because many of our students will be participating in the foreign language festival.  Help is needed in concessions.  If you can help, contact Kris Light.

Color Guard:  There are two teams of winter color guard – orange team and black team.  There is a new website for color guard: www.creekguard.com.  The Orange team will be performing on January 20th, and the black team will be performing at FBA on February 9th.  Mr. McKaig will be having a meeting with administrators concerning facility usage.

STOMP:  Anyone interested in seeing the show STOMP at the Peabody on January 19 should contact Mrs. Salerno.  Tickets are $42.50.

Silent Auction:  The silent auction will be on Saturday, April 21st during Lakeside Jazz Festival.  Details forms for the auction will be available at the February meeting.  The auction will be held in the new pavilion.

Lakeside Jazz Festival:  Susan MacKenzie reminded parents that funds raised at LJF are given to help students go to summer music camps.  Last year 57 students received $200 from the LJF to help with their camp tuition.  Often times, camps will match these funds.  So, please if you can help with LJF in any way, contact Susan MacKenzie.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm.
