General Meeting October 3, 2006
Susan MacKenzie called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Minutes from the September 5, 2006 were approved.
Treasurer’s report: Terri Karol reviewed the budget report. All student accounts are up to date. Instrument rentals will be charged on the next statement. It is important for the band to meet its goals for the luminary sale.
Amy Murray, a representative from Bank of America introduced a new checking/savings account the bank was offering for students aged 16 and older.
Communications: Cherri Grigg reported that the directory for band students was completed and up to date.
Color Guard: The color guard participated in Port Orange Family Days.
Adult Staffing: Thank you to everyone who has chaperoned to date. There are 4 more football games, the St. Augustine competition and FBA left this season.
Luminary Sale: Please save empty 100 ounce bottles of laundry detergent for scooping “snow”. Margaret Roberts is currently reviewing maps and notifying homeowners associations about our upcoming luminary sale. Please keep Saturday, Dec. 9th and 16th open. We will need all parents to help with this fundraiser.
Football Programs: Football program sales are going well. Thank you to all who help. The cost of printing was decreased by 1/3 over last year. Look for changes in the format of the program next year.
Uniforms: Band jackets and polo shirts are in and are being distributed to students. Marching band jackets are being dry cleaned for the St. Augustine competition. Thank you to Susan Salerno for arranging a box lunch for students before departing for St. Augustine.
Concert at the News-Journal Center: The Spruce Creek Music Program will be presenting a “Showcase of Sound” at the News-Journal Center on Saturday, February 3, 2007. Show times will be 3:00pm and 7:00pm. The cost of renting the facility is $1350. Dr. Doug Peterson will be handling advertising. Kevin Tilley will be working of the playbill. Tickets will be on sale through the News-Journal Center for: $15 – adults, $10 – for students and senior citizens. Chaperones will be needed on the day of the concert. Help is also needed in contacting hospitality directors at assisted living facilities. Ads for the concert will be put in the luminary kit bags and in the next school newsletter. If you are interested in helping with this concert, please contact Noreen Kearn or Amy Harms.
Band Captain report: Thank you to all parents who chaperone and who helped with concessions for all state auditions. Middle school night went well as did Homecoming. The band is working hard on the field show for the upcoming competitions. The marching band and color guard will be participating the Port Orange Family Days parade.
Lakeside Jazz Festival: All are welcome at meetings every third Thursday of the Month. Meetings are held in the second floor conference room at City center at 7:00pm.
Director’s report: All state results will be out in early November. Marching band is doing well. All county band auditions are on November 29. All county orchestra auditions are on November 30th. Students participating in orchestra solo/ensemble on February 3 will be scheduled for the morning so they may participate in the News-journal concert.
The 12 O’clock Jazz Band will be performing their farewell concert on Sunday, November 5th at 3:30 in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. The band leaves for China early Monday morning.
