General Meeting

August 3, 2004

 

Meeting called to order:

Rick Spitz at 7:30 pm.  The next meeting will be September 7th at 7:30 pm.

 

Band Captain: Travis Eales

London trip was successful.  After 2 days of band camp, the first song is almost complete.  7 pages of the drill are done.

 

Secretary Report: Susan MacKenzie

Minutes were distributed and read by all.  It was noted that Spruce Creek High School Musical Performing Arts Association is the proper title for our organization. Motion to accept by Mr. Roberts, 2nd by Charles Cravins.  Unanimous approval.

 

Treasury Report: Terri Karol

The report was explained.  So far there is a slow start, band fees and football ads need to be sent in.  If you are renting a school instrument, there is a $30 fee.  Student accounts are carefully monitored.  After the $50 fair share, 50% of everything goes into the student accounts.  There is a black mail box in the band room for payments.  Please be sure to put the student’s name on the envelope as well as what the payment is for.  Or any payment can be mailed to PO Box 290572 Port Orange FL 32129.  Student accounts will be sent out via email.  To request an account distribution, please email ekinion@kintech.com  Money can be added to an account at any time.

Motion to accept the report made by Robin Friedman.  2nd by Rose Mooney.  Unanimous approval.

 

Director’s Report: Andy Kidd, John Seth, Mrs. Watts, Mr. McKaig

Adjunct faculty not present: Steve Montgomery, Bill Dean, Doug Beard.

London report – There were 4 performances in 6 days.  SCHS is a.Florida Music demonstration school.  Of the three schools that have been so designated, SCHS is the only school that is not a performing arts magnet /academy school.  An update was made to the calendar; Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are marching practice.  The first Tuesday of every month is a parent meeting.  Thursday, September 2nd is the first game, practice is Monday and Tuesday that week.  The Lake Brantley game is on a teacher duty day.  There will be 3 practices the week of competition, October 25th.  October 30th is an all day competition in St. Augustine.  FBA contest was explained.  Parents need to pick up kids at school after games.  A note must be written to change procedure.  Calendars will be distributed at every meeting and are available on the web.  In November and December, the symphonic band is split into woodwind and brass and may require extra practices to play together.  Luminary sales are the first 2 Saturdays in December.  Three fundraisers were explained; football ads, luminary sales and the silent auction. Mr. Kidd reminded everyone, “If you are early, you are on time; if you are on time, you are late.”   Pride, Dignity, Class, Self Discipline are the goals of all activities. 

 

Fundraising: Sharon Owens

A plea was made for a chairperson for the silent auction.

 

Adult Staffing: Martha Fabian

A thank you was made to all who donated food and helped at the band camp lunches.  To be a volunteer, you must fill out a volunteer form.  Student health forms must be on file.  Football chaperone sign up sheets are being passed out for the first 3 games.

 

Guard Report:

 

Uniform Report: Mary Mathis

Shoe sizing was done today and will continue throughout band camp.  Cost is $25 per pair.  The first pair of gloves are included in the band fee, additional pairs must be purchased.  Black socks are mandatory.  The band T – shirt and shorts are to be worn under uniforms. 

 

Concessions: Angela Wallace

Angela asked for parents to please send goodies to camp for lunch and thanked everyone for their donations to date.

 

Football Ads: Nancy Lowden Norman

The final push for the ads is on.  Deadline extended to this Saturday, August 7, 2004.  Please see Nancy if any one has specific questions.
