Vice-President Joe Papa conducted the meeting.
President Weimer and Mr. Kidd are in Jacksonville with the Jazz Bands.

2003-2004 school year.
Board Resignations:
-Pam Lachaussie has resigned for personal reasons
-Andrea Todd has resigned for personal reasons
Board Appointments:
-Kathy Shapiro has been appointed to be Chaperone Chairman for the remainder of the school year
-Jerry Lapidus has been appointed to the Football Program Committee for the remainder of the school year
Secretary’s Report: Jane Weimer

-$13,700.00 expended
-$4,000.00 was sent as a down payment for the Virginia Trip

Band Captain’s Report: Jenna Wheeler
-Apologized for not being here on a regular basis
-January has been an extremely busy month for the Music Program
-All County: 16 students performed
-Solo/Ensemble is this month
-Taking time during class to practice
-Will be at Oveido High on Friday and Saturday
-FBA District Competition is coming up
-Seniors are getting ready to leave
-Underclassmen are getting ready for OCS
Director’s Report: Victor Hornilla
-All County a success
-Ms. Cindy Berry-Clinician
-Had the most number of students: 16
-Orchestra had 16 SCHS members
-Recognition of Dave Smith for his years of service and dedication
Solo/Ensemble: Oveido High School
-Jazz Bands will perform on Friday Night. 11:00 Jazz will perform at
7:00 p.m. and the 12:00 Jazz will perform at 8:30 p.m.
-Individual Solo times have been assigned
Orchestra and Concert Band:
-Rehearsal schedule is on the table
-Sectionals or full band rehearsal after school
-March 7, 2003 is District Festival. The students are off that day, so they will not be missing classes to attend
-Orchestra’s FOA date is now March 14, 2003
Officer Candidate School (OCS):
-5 workshops
-First meeting will be the last Monday in February

-If a date has changed, it will be stricken and the new date placed next to it.
Dixie Classic:
-First payment was due January 15, 2003
-Any problems or adjustments, see the directors and put in writing
-Payment schedule is: February 15th and March 15th
-Place money in an envelope and mark with student name and Dixie Classic. Can then be put in the Band Drop Box
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2004
-Application is in progress
-Will run this as we did the Tournament of Roses: very organized and fundraisers to help defray costs for students
University of North Florida Kroger Jazz Festival:
-Both Jazz Bands are participating in this festival
-Should be arriving back at the school any minute
Color Guard: Mr. Shawn McKaig
-Winter Guard season is underway
-Premier was a great success
-Thanks to the Joe and Donna Papa for a super concession stand
-Thanks to Andrea Todd for a wonderful hospitality Room
-Thanks to Dave Carr for announcing
-Thanks to the Band Students who helped throughout the day
-Expense is more than the benefits. Hours are tremendous to put this on successfully
-Very few competitions in the state can compare to the one at SCHS
-$2,200.00 in fees just for judges
-43 schools participated
-Winter Guard is in Tampa for a competition
-Won’t be participating in FBA due to the loss of the gym for practice
-Instructors are coming in from UCF to train our girls
Percussion Workshop:
-Three workshops will be held at Creekside Middle School for the students
-6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday night and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday
-20 students are participating

Silent Auction: Bonnie Harris
-Auction is 5 weeks away
-All kinds of things are coming in: Super Bowl memorabilia, attraction tickets, etc
-Can drop off items on Monday and Friday between 7:00 a.m. 8:00 a.m. in the Band Room
-Donation forms and flyers are available. 3 donations per student
-Business card reminders to distribute to friends and family
-Students will get 10 cards each
-Please contact people outside of the band to attend and purchase
-Please read your email for upcoming reminders
-Need door prizes…please donate!
-1 service hour per donation
-Volunteer sign up sheets: Saturday: 3:00 p.m. to ??? for set up
-Sunday: 1:00 p.m. to ??? day of event
-Cheryl Cunningham and Becky Sita are doing advertising
-Hoping to have the color guard perform outside
-Please get all donations in ASAP
-Get excited about this event. The more excited we are, the more the public will be excited and willing to come
Lakeside Jazz Festival:
-March 21st and 22nd, 2003
-30-40 bands will perform
-Thursday evening the U.S. Army Band will kick off our event
-ONYX gave a donation
-Time Warner is also a sponsor
-Help needed to sell ads for the program
-Business card size ads are $25.00
-Sign up sheets will be available next meeting
-Storage facility is needed
-$1,200.00 worth of tents has been purchased for this event
-Co-Coordinator for next year’s event is needed. Can work with Dave Carr and Jean Martin during this festival to become familiar with the inner workings
-This festival is a cooperative effort: City of Port Orange, Atlantic High School and SCHS
-Proceeds go to summer scholarships
-Money is distributed by the number of students that work the event and are in the music program
-We do reap the benefits from the work put into this event
-Please participate!!!!
Adult Staffing: Kathy Shapiro
-Checking all paperwork for the volunteers
-Make sure your hours are up to date
-Fill out Volunteers in Public Schools Form and turn in
-Kathy will let everyone know his or her total
Chaperones: Kathy will work with the students to ensure a positive, enjoyable experience for all concerned
-Report all problems to Kathy and she will discuss with Mr. Kidd, Mr. Hornilla and Mr. McKaig
-Chaperone uniform: Black polo shirts, beige pants
-Please look in closets for Tux jackets, bow ties, and vests. We didn’t have enough for today’s event in Jacksonville
UNF Kroger Jazz Festival: Mr. Kidd
-Long day for the students: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
-Students got to see many of the former Jazz Band students who attend UNF
-Our students were great
-Judge said that the 12:00 Jazz Band was superb. He is amazed at the caliber of music coming out of a high school band!
-Only comment was to work on the eighth notes…otherwise all favorable comments
Comments from President Weimer:
-Pride was very evident to the judges
-Mr. Kidd deserves a gold medal for his work with the students
-Students were fabulous. Performances were perfect.
-A pleasure to chaperone this trip and be a part of the day
Band Banquet:
-May 3, 2003

-$21.00 per person. Tax and tip included

-Our cost is $8.00
